NEEMO monitoring visit to the project
On 19 June in Arkaute, the partners in the LIFE OREKA MENDIAN project welcomed Ainhoa Daquistade, a representative of NEEMO, an external company commissioned by EASME to monitor the development of the LIFE projects. The day was divided into two parts: an administrative review of all the initiatives within the project during a meeting in Arkaute and later a field visit to some of the initiatives implemented by the Provincial Councils of Álava and Gipuzkoa in the Natura2000 Spaces of Entzia and Aizkorri-Aratz.
The meeting was attended by all of the project’s partners who, at the request of NEEMO, explained the administrative and financial data for their organisations in relation to the project.
This follow-up visit coincides with the mid-point of the LIFE project and with the sending of an Interim Report to Brussels. During this time, great effort has been made in terms of administrative coordination between the partners, as well as in the implementation of communication actions. Before we could implement the initiatives for the conservation of grazing habitats it was necessary to carry out extensive preparatory work, focused on collecting information to analyse the condition of the mountain pastures and planning the initiatives themselves.
With different degrees of intensity, these initiatives are already being implemented in each of the 15 ZEC taking part in the project. The participation of local agents, the establishment of pasture production monitoring networks, the monitoring of results, the use of innovative methodologies and visibility in Europe, are other aspects being worked on as part of LIFE OREKA MENDIAN.
